A Wicked Ending
Tourists at the West End have been seen walking out of theatres recently during the interval of the musical, Wicked. But how are people justifying wasting their money on half of a show?
In the November of 2024, the film Wicked, starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, was released in cinemas. The film became extremely popular very quickly and has become the highest-grossing musical ever to be based on a Broadway play. Moreover, it has become very prominent on social media, with some fans even painting themselves green and dressing up as the main character in the play, Elphaba, to watch the film in cinemas. Additionally, many fans of the singer Ariana Grande flocked to watch the film.
Overall, the film was a huge success; so much so that fans of this new film left the theatre after the renowned song ‘Defying Gravity’ as not to spoil the second part/ film (which is coming out in November 2025). This has left many actors and staff outraged, stating that this is ‘totally unfair’ and ‘disrespectful to the actors who are working so hard’.
Was spending so much money on a live show on West End worth it if you leave the show halfway through?
