The band Pulp is an iconic band from Sheffield whom, with the band’s ‘kitchen sink drama’ lyrics and repeated references to British culture, the band became one of the most prominent Britpop groups of the 90s. Its members include Jarvis Cocker as the band’s singer, Russell Senior as the guitarist, Candida Doyle on keyboard, Steve Mackey on the bass guitar and Mark Webber on the keyboard and guitar. Pulp is best known for their songs ‘Common People’ and ‘Disco 2000’ and have recently announced a new tour around the UK. Despite only just touring in 2023, the lead singer Jarvis Cocker declared that fans ‘deserve more’, hence the title of their new tour ‘You Deserve More’.
Pulp is considered to be one of the major bands that defined the Britpop era in the 90s. They were alongside Blur, which toured in 2023, who famously ended their tour in Wembley Stadium and released a new album ‘The Ballad of Darren’. Blur’s musical rival, Oasis, also announced a new tour last year. The announcement from Oasis left around 14 million fans scrambling to buy tickets for the 1.4 million tickets available across the UK and Ireland last year. Other Britpop bands such as Manic Street Preachers (best known for their songs ‘A Design for Life’ and ‘Motorcycle Emptiness’) and Supergrass (‘Alright’ and ‘Pumping on your Stereo’) have recently reunited and announced 2025 tours alongside Pulp.
In addition to Pulp’s tour, many fans are currently speculating around whether the band will announce a new album after Jarvis Cocker stated that ‘we have more’ but fans will have ‘to wait a little more time to hear that one’. Does this mean a new era for Britpop?
